Azimuth Drive As-Built Drawing
The design had progressed by December to something that we were ready to build, and Larry and I went back and forth more frequently, culminating in a meeting to work through the last of the details in person – there were several Aha! s in that meeting. Most of them were optimizations of the drive assembly and once they were memorialized in some dimensioned drawings, Larry went to work in the shop and built the box. Here is what he was working from:
The materials of the box are thinner, the box is a bit longer but the same width, as that’s really dictated by the size of the BBAstro gear box. The hinges changed completely, switching to door hinges and much larger ones. They are accompanied by a single hinge pin for both that can be removed when the drive is under the telescope to make it easy to remove the assembly for service.
And, here it is, in person!
